    location
Praia da Aguda is known for its pure water and the extensive sandy beach that is easy to reach. In addition to the bathing season, this beach is ideal for a walk by the sea or a speleological expedition.

  • Scattered over the sand there are several dark rocks that give it its own personality and connect the mountain landscape with the beach landscape. On the southern embankment of the beach, visitors can admire the Pedra de Alvidrar, a huge rock that slopes almost perpendicular to the sea and, according to local tradition, was a place of initiation for young men to prove their courage by climbing it at risk of death.

  • In the same place, about fifty meters from the cliff, it is important to take a look at Fojo, a very deep natural well that communicates with the sea at its base. The Fojo Grotto was created from the corrosive effects of rainwater through fractures in the limestone cliffs, combined with the erosive effects of the waves that created a labyrinth of caves, caverns and huge cracks. It is said that the Romans believed that a triton touched the clam at the bottom of the fojo hole by about 90 meters. In reality it would be the noise made by the waves, but at the time a message was even sent to Emperor Tiberius (between AD 14 and 34) to report the phenomenon.

  • In 2019, and for the third time in a row, Praia da Adraga was awarded the "Gold Quality Beach" award by Quercus - National Association for Nature Conservation. The award recognizes the quality of this beach as "excellent".
