LOKATION

  • The place comes from the Arab village of Alpalantri, which probably returned to a Roman fortress. The fortifications still existed when King Sancho I made the area of Açafa (now Nisa, Vila Velha de Ródão and partly Proença-a-Nova) available for the resettlement of the Templar order during the Portuguese Reconquista.

  • The municipality of Alpalhão became independent in the late 13th to early 14th centuries. The city received the rights to the city of King Manuel I in 1512 and was the seat of its own district. In 1855 the circle was dissolved and Nisa annexed. After the division into the Crato district in 1895, Alpalhão has remained a municipality in the Nisa district since 1898
